Zalebs Interview

Rachel Alberts of Zalebs.com, a South African celebrity gossip and news website caught up with me a few weeks ago, chatting about my radio career, more so, about what it’s like to be the voice behind the mic on UCT Radio‘s Afternoon Drive Show.

The interview, entitled Jonathan Duguid: Behind the Mic came out on the Zalebs website on Wednesday, 29 August 2012 – click here to read it.

Back Pain Ain’t Cool

Sorry I’ve been a little quiet this week… On Wednesday night I put my back out.

Bad Back Pain

Sadly it was not due to me showing off my manliness lifting heavy objects, nor was it getting freaky in the sack, but rather sitting down to have my supper. As I sat down something pulled, and well, it was incredibly sore, and for the last two days or so I’ve been in much agonizing pain. Growing old is not an easy task, I tell you.

Nevertheless, I’m feeling back to normal (pardon the blatant pun) and am back at your disposal.

Love, light & pain-killers

David Cameron – Man, Mouse or Muppet?

British Conservative MP Yeo has urged Prime Minister David Cameron to decide whether he is a “man or a mouse” over the issue of expanding Heathrow airport by adding a third runway.

David Cameron - Mouse or Man

…You have to admit there is a likeness between a mouse and David Cameron…

When I saw the “man or mouse” quote by Yeo, I was immediately reminded of this song from the recent Muppets movie:

Cape Town Snapshots – Part 2

There are many ways to tell that you are in False Bay in Cape Town, from shark warnings, to warmer water, to the less pretentious of people. But one of the big giveaways is the multi-coloured beach huts found at Muizenberg Beach, St James Beach, and Fish Hoek Beach (most famously at St James). These beach huts have inspired my Cape Town Snapshots feature this week.

Here are my top 3 Cape Town pics for this week:

Don’t take this beautiful city that we have in Cape Town for granted! Get out and enjoy it, and while you’re at it, visit False Bay.

Have a happy Tuesday folks!

Podcast: Ivo Vegter – Amped: Prejudice – 27 Aug 2012

Amped is a weekly feature by columnist Ivo Vegter on the UCT Radio Afternoon Drive Show with me, where Ivo shares “the unvarnished truth” on a variety of topics.

Here’s some background on today’s episode:

“There’s rational disagreement, and then there’s irrational prejudice. Last week’s Amped debunking the myth of the competence of the Apartheid state elicited a storm of comment. A few appeared to come from the kind of people who hang out at the aptly-named stormfront.org. After recovering from laughter at being derided as “politically correct”, a response seemed justified.”

The Tweet Seat Saga Continues: Next Critic – Yoursoapbox.co.za

Tweet Seats

It would seem that I’m not the only critic of Tweet Seats in Cape Town theatre. After reading my post, The Problem with Tweet Seats in Theatre, which has subsequently caused quite the healthy debate on Twitter, Rory Berry (Owner: Yoursoapbox.co.za), has also decided to write down a few thoughts he has regarding Tweet Seats and why we shouldn’t have them in South African theatres (or theatres in general), adding more validity and strength to the anti-Tweet Seat debate.

To give you some background on Rory Berry: He works in digital, is a professional actor, and also owns and runs Yoursoapbox.co.za, a website that seeks to promote theatre through listings and honest reviews from a streamlined database of reviewers that Rory headhunted and personally picked.

Please feel free to leave comments and join the debate on both articles.
